Beekman family papers, [ca. 1740-1900].

The papers consist of personal and business correspondence and records of various members of the Beekman family, particularly Gerard G. Beekman (1719-1797), James Beekman (1732-1807), Gerard W. Beekman (1718-1781), and James W. Beekman (1815-1877), and including numerous other members of the Beekman and related families, their friends, business associates, etc. The collection reflects the Beekmans' extensive business interests during the eighteenth century, particularly their import-export trade, their real estate management and the multitudinous activities of this socially prominent family. There are also numerous letters and papers relating to James W. Beekman's political involvements in New York, including his term as New York assemblyman and senator.
